Online Urdu Newspapers

Etemad - Hyderabad's youngest Urdu daily is already into circulation now. It is being brought out by a famous Muslim Ex-parliamentarian - Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi. Nasim Arifi has been appointed as the editor of Etemad.

Hyderabad already had three Urdu dailies - Siasat, Munsif and Rehnuma-e-Deccan. With the launch of Etemad, the quality of Urdu journalism is definitely going to improve, day by day.

Another good thing is that at least three of above mentioned newspapers also have their presence on the Internet. They can be read online on the following URLs are -

Wonderful list and post, Qais!

BTW, I just joined Desicritics.org. Do you mind if I reproduce pretty much the whole post there (with a link and attribution, of course)?

Good post, Qais bhai!

Naseem Arifi is an erstwhile editor of The Munsif Daily. It appears that Ehtemad is running a very aggressive advertising and marketing campaign in Hyderabad. And why not, it has to after all fight the two mammoths of Urdu media - Siasat and Munsif.

Some of the billboards are quite hard hitting, something which can sway the public towards the daily - like the one where George Bush is pictured with a question "Leader or Fool"? Perhaps some marketing lessons to learn here - know your audience well, and draft a strategy accordingly.

A possible negative point with the Ehtemad Daily could be its affiliation with the Majlis Itehaad-i-Muslimeen or MIM. This might just hamper an independent and objective analysis of different political and other issues. Despite this, I believe the daily will find many takers, and its promoters enjoy strong support from the Urdu-speaking populace of the city.

Tough competition ahead, for both the age old Siasat Daily, and the resurgent Munsif Daily.
